Deep Nuclei Therapy, or DNT, was born from a simple observation: psychological disorders show a paradoxical character. In fact, when we suffer because of something we find ourselves doing – without anyone forcing us – something we do not want to do because it causes discomfort – it is clearly a paradoxical situation.
Psychological disorders manifest as particular behaviors, such as reacting poorly to certain people, avoiding social situations, feeling depressed, worthless or trapped in a painful relationship.
It’s as if something in us takes over, imposing its bizarre and incomprehensible will on us, and determining – in some respects and in that particular area of our lives – the direction of our behavior.
Far from being an unusual situation or at the edge of normality, this is a very well known aspect of human nature. We must have heard people saying something like «there is a part of me that leads me to ... ... while another wants …», «at that moment it was as if I were no longer myself», «it was as if I were another person», «something inside me took over,» and so on and so forth.
This situation occurs especially with the emergence of intense emotions that are unpleasant, the most obvious of which perhaps is explosive anger, although there are other moods, such as despair, loneliness, sadness, emptiness, which show that power. However, these are states of mind that originated in our childhood, when we were prey to real emotional storms.
The overwhelming passions that we experienced as children still animate our nightmares and our dreams, often across the ocean of time. The emotions are forms of psychic energy and we know that energy is neither created nor destroyed.
Once we become adults, we try to control them by leveraging our rationality, as in the case of the knight who leads his horse where he wants to go. But who is the «he»? The horse or the rider?
These are, in fact, genuine parts of ourselves, these are the Deep Nuclei, which are able to establish a real tyranny of the emotions. Sometimes these parts possess such a powerful energy charge that they take control of our behavior even on the somatic level, altering some of our bodily functions.
But, if emotions, which are the energy of the psyche, cannot be destroyed, they can be transformed.
This is the goal of Deep Nuclei Therapy: to unleash the power contained in our ancient suffering and transform it into current resources available to us as adults, to achieve a state of deep physical and mental well-being and attain what is important to us. |
